20 Healthiest Fast Food Burgers To Order Under 550 Calories

Published: Apr 3, 2024 · By: Joe Duff

This list has all of the healthiest fast food burgers that you can order! I've tried them all and included the best burgers from popular fast food chains like Burger King, Mcdonald's, In N Out, Shake Shack, and more.

A bunch of fast food burgers.

Healthy Low Calorie Fast Food Burgers

I don't know about you, but I absolutely love burgers, especially from fast food joints. Since they're something I crave and often get when I need a quick meal, I've put together all of my favorite and the best healthy fast food burgers that you can order.

I've included low calorie fast food burger options on the list so you can enjoy all the plus sides of a burger without all the calories. I also added some vegetarian and non-beef options, so whatever you're looking for, you're sure to find it on this list.

With that said, let's not waste another second and jump right into the list!

    1. White Castle Original Sliders

    A burger slider.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 140 Calories
    • 6g Fat
    • 13g Carbs
    • 7g Protein

Kicking off my list are the iconic White Castle sliders. These mini hamburgers have only 140 calories each, so they're ideal if you aren't super hungry but want something that will satisfy all your burger cravings.

    2. Burger King Hamburger

A hamburger with lettuce, tomato, and onion,

    Nutritional Info:

    • 250 Calories
    • 10g Fat
    • 25g Carbs
    • 15g Protein

This first hamburger on my list is this classic hamburger at Burger King. It's one of my favorite low calorie Burger King orders, and it's been my go-to any time I'm craving BK.

I like to order it with pickles, onion, and tomato to knock off a few extra calories.

    3. McDonald's Hamburger

A burger with onion, ketchup, and pickles.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 250 Calories
    • 9g Fat
    • 31g Carbs
    • 12g Protein

If BK isn't your preferred fast-food joint, you can grab a McDonald’s hamburger for the same amount of calories! It comes with ketchup, pickle slices, onions, and mustard.

The classic hamburger is definitely one of my go-to low calorie McDonald's orders since it's so filling and delicious for only 250 calories.

    4. Wendy’s Jr. Hamburger

A hamburger with pickles, onion, and ketchup.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 250 Calories
    • 11g Fat
    • 25g Carbs
    • 13g Protein

So, I just talked about the hamburger from BK and McDonald's, but if those two places aren't your go-to, then it's probably Wendy's. And Wendy's Jr. hamburger has the same amount of calories, so you really can't go wrong!

It has that iconic square beef patty with mustard, ketchup, hamburger patty, crinkle-cut pickles, and sweet onion, all for just 250 calories. You might be able to guess this by now, but Wendy's Jr. hamburger is one of my favorite low calorie Wendy's orders.

    5. Mooyah The Low Cal Burger

A burger in a lettuce wrap with tomato and onion.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 285 Calories
    • 18g Fat
    • 10g Carbs
    • 20g Protein

Mooyah is only in 20 states in the US, so you might not have one near you. But if you do, you have to go there ASAP and order the low cal burger.

It features a single certified Angus beef patty, iceberg lettuce, fresh avocado, tomato, onions, and Cholula. Since it replaces the typical bun with a lettuce bun, it's super low in calories while still having all those fix-ins.

    6. Whataburger Whataburger Jr.

A burger with lettuce, pickles, tomato, and onion.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 310 Calories
    • 11g Fat
    • 37g Carbs
    • 14g Protein

Whataburger isn't in every state in the US, but if you've ever had it, then you'd probably agree with me that it totally should be. I mean, it's just delicious, and the Whataburger Jr. might be one of my favorite low calorie burgers.

If you're ordering it, I suggest choosing the low calorie meal so you get the burger with apple slices and an unsweetened iced tea.

    7. Steak 'n Shake Single Steakburger

A burger with a thin patty, cheese, pickles, and onions.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 320 Calories
    • 14g Fat
    • 32g Carbs
    • 15g Protein

The Steak 'n Shake Single Steakburger has the lowest calorie count among its steakburgers on the menu. It contains a steakburger and a regular bun without cheese.

If you want to make it a cheeseburger, you totally can and it will add only 70 calories. I honestly think it's so good that it doesn't need the cheese, but it's your call!

    8. Sonic Drive-In Jr. Burger

A hamburger with mustard and ketchup.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 340 Calories
    • 17g Fat
    • 32g Carbs
    • 14g Protein

This delicious option at Sonic is a smaller version of their classic burger, but it still has all the good stuff! A juicy beef patty, crinkle cut pickles, ketchup, and mustard on a soft bun, it's perfect.

Whenever I order this, I always get the diet lime limade for a refreshing drink that has only 5 calories!

    9. Dairy Queen Hamburger

A hamburger with ketchup, pickles, and mustard.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 350 Calories
    • 14g Fat
    • 35g Carbs
    • 20g Protein

I feature the Dairy Queen hamburger on my low calorie DQ list and for a good reason. For one, it's surprisingly a really tasty hamburger, and it has just 300 calories with 20 grams of protein.

If you want to treat yourself, order a kid's vanilla cone for dessert, and your entire meal will still come out to under 500 calories!

    10. A&W Hamburger

A large bun with a burger patty, mustard, and ketchup.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 350 Calories
    • 11g Fat
    • 41g Carbs
    • 20g Protein

Another hamburger option that has 20 grams of protein is the classic A&W hamburger. You have to order the diet root beer - which has 0 calories - for one of the best fast food meals.

Also, I always order a side of BBQ sauce to put on my burger. It has 40 calories but it's so worth it. It might be the best BBQ sauce I've ever had, and the meal will still be under 400 calories.

    11. In N Out Hamburger With Onion

A hamburger with onion with lettuce, tomato, and sauce.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 360 Calories
    • 16g Fat
    • 37g Carbs
    • 16g Protein

In-N-Out burgers definitely live up to the hype. Every time I order from there, the food is Instagram-worthy, and the taste never disappoints.

I love ordering the hamburger with sweet and crunchy onion. It comes on a regular bun along with lettuce, tomato, and, of course, a perfect onion.

A low calorie pro tip is to order the hamburger on a lettuce bun, and it comes out to only 200 calories!

    12. Shake Shack Single Hamburger

    A hamburger.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 370 Calories
    • 18g Fat
    • 24g Carbs
    • 28g Protein

Out of all the fast food burgers out there, the hamburger from Shake Shack is my all-time favorite.

There aren't any Shake Shacks near me in Buffalo, NY, so whenever there is one around me when I'm traveling, I eat there as much as I can. And when I do, my go-to order is the single hamburger.

The beef patty is so juicy and my favorite part is it comes on a soft and buttery potato bun. It's so good that I always eat it with just the burger and the bun. Oh, and I love how high in protein the burger is - just another reason it's my favortie.

    13. Culver's Original Butterburger

A hamburger with purple onion, pickles, ketchup and mustard,

    Nutritional Info:

    • 390 calories
    • 17g fat
    • 38g carbs
    • 20g carbs

Another classic hamburger that you can order is the one from Culver's. It has a beef patty with lettuce, pickles, red onion, ketchup, and mustard.

I just featured this original butterburger from Culver's on my healthy Culver's list, so if Culver's is one of your favorite fast food restaurants, you'll want to check that out.

    14. Jack In The Box Jr. Jumbo Jack

A hamburger with lettuce, tomato, and pickles.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 400 calories
    • 25g fat
    • 31g carbs
    • 14g carbs

Speaking of healthy fast food lists, I also recently just made for Jack In The Box. Although the garden salad with grilled chicken is my favorite thing to order, if I had to pick a burger, it would definitely be the Jr. Jumbo Jack.

It's a little different from the rest of the low calorie fast foods burgers on this list since it comes with ketchup and mayo, along with tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, and onion.

    15. Wendy’s Double Stack

A double hamburger with cheese, ketchup, onion, and pickles.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 410 Calories
    • 24g Fat
    • 26g Carbs
    • 23g Protein

When I want an extra meaty burger while still keeping my calories low, I order the double stack from Wendy's. It's also a great order if you're ever craving a cheeseburger.

It features two fresh Jr. hamburger patties topped with a slice of American cheese, crinkle-cut pickles, ketchup, mustard, and sweet onion.

    16. BurgerFi Burger Single

Part of a hamburger with lettuce and tomato.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 465 Calories
    • 21g Fat
    • 44g Carbs
    • 24g Protein

The original BurgerFi Burger has double natural Angus beef patties, but it also comes with a calorie count of 655.

If you want all the deliciousness of the OG, you can order a single burger that still includes the iconic BurgerFi special sauce for just 465 calories!

    17. Fatburger Impossible Burger

A vegetarian hamburger with lettuce and tomato in a paper wrap.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 485 Calories
    • 9g Fat
    • 48g Carbs
    • 23g Protein

The next option on my list is what I think is the best Impossible Burger you can get at any fast food restaurant.

This one from Fatburger comes with the works, including lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles, relish, mayo, and mustard. It's a loaded burger that's honestly as delicious as any beef burger. Plus, you have the option to order it on a lettuce bun to save a few hundred calories.

    18. Smashburger Classic Smash Turkey Burger (no sauce)
A turkey burger with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and onion.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 500 Calories
    • 25g Fat
    • 41g Carbs
    • 23g Protein

Sometimes, I'm not feeling beef but still want everything a burger has to offer, so I order this Smashburger grilled turkey burger.

It has a juicy grilled turkey patty, American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, Smash Sauce, ketchup, toasted bun.

Now, if you order it how it comes with the Smash Sauce, it'll have 570 calories. I always order it without the sauce to keep the burger right at 500 calories.

    19. Shake Shack Shroom Burger

A mushroom burger with lettuce, tomato, and sauce.

    Nutritional Info:

    • 510 Calories
    • 27g Fat
    • 49g Carbs
    • 18g Protein

I had to include this not-so-common burger on my list that I think is absolutely delicious.

Shake Shack's shroom burger has a crispy fried portobello mushroom patty filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses, topped with lettuce, tomato, and ShackSauce on their delicious toasted potato bun.

If you want to make this vegetarian burger even healthier, you can order it in a lettuce wrap to save 180 calories!

    20. Five Guys Little Hamburger

    Nutritional Info:

    • 540 Calories
    • 26g Fat
    • 39g Carbs
    • 23g Protein

Five Guys are famous for their burgers and fries, so I had to include their lowest calorie burger option on my list.

The little hamburger has the same iconic flavor as the regular burgers, with the option to add as many toppings as you want. I like to add on hot sauce, lettuce, and jalapeno peppers, for just 10 calories.
