The Best Baked Chicken Wings
If you've been following me on Instagram, then you probably know I own a restaurant in Buffalo, Duff's Famous Wings. My family has been serving chicken wings since 1969, and they're without a doubt some of the best chicken wings in the world.
Since it's hard to deep fry chicken wings at home, I came up with this baked version, and these Buffalo wings are pretty darn close to the ones we serve at the restaurant.
These baked Buffalo wings have super tender, juicy meat with an ultra crispy skin on the outside. The wings are seasoned before baking and then coated in a homemade Buffalo sauce that's to die for.
Since these Buffalo wings are made in the oven, they are so much easier than cooking chicken wings in oil. Just season the wings, pop them on a baking rack to cook, then toss in the wing sauce. That's all there is to it! After the wings bake, I always pop this dill pickle pizza in the oven for the best pizza and wings combo.
Whether you're making them for game day, a party, or a family dinner, these crispy baked wings never disappoint!
Why This Recipe Works
Oil-free. These crispy oven baked chicken wings don't need any additional oil to make. You won't believe it from how crispy they are!
The wing sauce. These crispy wings are coated in a rich and perfectly spicy Buffalo sauce that tastes just like the one from my restaurant. It's so good you'll want to put it on everything!
Crowd favorite. I love making these baked chicken wings when we're hosting, and they're always the talk of the night. I guarantee they'll impress everyone who tries them.

How To Make Baked Chicken Wings
1. Season the chicken wings: Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Pat the chicken wings well with paper towels until they're completely dry. In a bowl, combine the baking powder, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, and toss the chicken wings in this seasoning until well-coated.
2. Bake chicken wings: Arrange the chicken wings on the wire rack set over the prepared baking sheet. Bake the wings for 45-50 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time.
3. Make Buffalo sauce: In the meantime, make the wing sauce. Add the butter and hot sauce into a saucepan and cook on medium until the butter is melted. Stir until combined, and remove the sauce from the heat to let it cool.
4. Coat chicken wings: Add the hot wings to a large bowl with the sauce and gently toss until the wings are fully coated. Transfer the coated wings to a plate and serve warm with blue cheese. Enjoy!
Tips To Make the Best Recipe
- Dry your chicken wings thoroughly, and don't skip the baking powder. These two tricks are the secret to getting these baked chicken wings crispy.
- If you're starting with frozen chicken wings, make sure to thaw them in the fridge overnight first and squeeze out any extra moisture with paper towels. Otherwise, they won't get as crispy.
- Use Franks hot sauce for the best Buffalo sauce you'll ever have!
- Try other wing sauce options like lemon pepper, garlic parmesan, hot honey, or BBQ sauce.
- For a different flavor, add additional spices like smoked paprika, onion powder, or cayenne powder to the seasoning mix for the chicken wings.
- Serve your chicken wings with carrot sticks, celery sticks, and ranch or blue cheese dressing for a classic restaurant-style experience.
How To Store Chicken Wings
In the fridge: Transfer the baked chicken wings to an airtight container and store them in the fridge for 3-4 days.
In the freezer: Let the wings cool completely, then keep them in a freezer-safe airtight container or freezer-safe bag with the excess air squeezed out. Freeze for up to 3 months.
Reheating: Reheat the chicken wings at 360°F in the oven for about 10-15 minutes or in the air fryer for 5-10 minutes or until warmed through. If you're starting from frozen, let the wings thaw in the refrigerator overnight. You can also enjoy the wings cold, and they'll be just as delicious.
FAQs About This Baked Chicken Wings Recipe
Should I bake wings at 400 or 425?
You should bake chicken wings at 425°F to get the skin perfectly crispy. Since chicken wings are dark meat, there's less of a chance of them overcooking or drying out even in higher baking temperatures.
How long does it take to bake chicken wings at 425 degrees?
It will take about 45-50 minutes to bake chicken wings at 425°F. Make sure to flip them halfway to ensure even cooking throughout.
Is it better to bake wings covered or uncovered?
It's best to bake chicken wings uncovered on a wire rack for the crispiest results. Covering wings while baking will lead to soggy skin that won't crisp up as well, even if you uncover them after.
