High Protein and Low Calorie Texas Roadhouse Menu Items

Texas Roadhouse is my all-time favorite restaurant to get a steak. Since I eat there so much, I began noticing that they actually have a lot of healthy, high protein menu options, so I put together this list of healthy options from the Texas Roadhouse menu!

This list goes over all the menu items at the famous steakhouse under 500 calories, from the grill to the salad bar, plus tips on the best healthy sides and add-ons to complete your meal. So, with that said, let's not waste any time and get right into the list.

    1. House Salad

A house salad on a white plate.

    Nutritional Info without dressing:

    • 230 Calories
    • 16g Fat
    • 9g Carbs
    • 4g Sugar
    • 2g Fiber
    • 13g Protein

This classic salad with mixed greens, chopped hard-boiled eggs, diced tomatoes, crunchy croutons, and shredded cheddar cheese is the lowest calorie option at Texas Roadhouse. Pair it with a side of Texas red chili with beans for just 180 calories more.

    2. USDA Choice Sirloin - 6 oz.

A piece of steak on a white plate with a bowl of green beans.

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 250 Calories
    • 6g Fat
    • 3g Carbs
    • 1g Sugar
    • 1g Fiber
    • 46g Protein

A 6 oz. sirloin steak at Texas Roadhouse is a lean and juicy option with just 250 calories and a good amount of protein. It's grilled to your preferred doneness and seasoned with Texas Roadhouse's signature steak rub. For what it's worth, the sirloin steak is my go-to steak to order since it's so low in calories but really high in protein!

    3. Herb Crusted Chicken

A piece of herb crusted chicken on a white plate with a bowl of broccoli and carrots on it.

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 260 Calories
    • 4g Fat
    • 12g Carbs
    • 8g Sugar
    • 4g Fiber
    • 47g Protein

Featuring a hearty grilled chicken breast marinated in herbs and spices, the herb-crusted chicken packs a flavorful punch without the high calorie count. This entree comes at just 260 calories, though you can skip the caramelized lemon and knock off 20 calories.

This chicken is honestly one of my favorite chicken breast dinners to order at a restaurant. I love it so much I made my own copycat recipe, so if you ever want to make it at home, check out my herb crusted chicken recipe on my other blog.

    4. Dallas Filet - 6 oz.

A piece of streak on a white plate with a bowl of green beans next to it.

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 270 Calories
    • 10g Fat
    • 6g Carbs
    • 2g Sugar
    • 2g Fiber
    • 45g Protein

If you like your steak extra tender, you might want to choose the Dallas filet over the sirloin. This melt-in-your-mouth grilled tenderloin cut is perfectly lean and flavorful, seasoned with the classic Texas Roadhouse steak rub, and it only has about 20 calories more. Some of the best sides to pair it with are fresh vegetables, buttered corn, steamed broccoli, or a combo of green beans and sauteed mushrooms, any of which will come out to just 480 calories or less.

    5. Grilled BBQ Chicken

A piece of barbecue chicken on a white plate.

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 300 Calories
    • 3.5g Fat
    • 19g Carbs
    • 15g Sugar
    • 2g Fiber
    • 46g Protein

Dinner at Texas Roadhouse wouldn't be complete without a helping of their sweet and tangy house BBQ sauce, and the grilled BBQ chicken is definitely the best way to enjoy it. This meaty entree would go great with some buttered corn, fresh vegetables, or Texas red chili with beans for a filling meal under 50 calories.

    6. USDA Choice Sirloin - 8 oz.

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 340 Calories
    • 8g Fat
    • 5g Carbs
    • 2g Sugar
    • 2g Fiber
    • 61g Protein

An 8-ounce sirloin steak is one of the highest protein options you can get at Texas Roadhouse under 500 calories, second only to the 11-ounce sirloin steak. Ordering any of the smother options will still keep the whole thing under 500 calories, though if you want to add fiber for a more filling meal, the green beans, sauteed mushrooms, or sauteed onions are the way to go.

    7. Dallas Filet - 8 oz.

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 360 Calories
    • 13g Fat
    • 8g Carbs
    • 2g Sugar
    • 2g Fiber
    • 60g Protein

This larger Dallas filet cut will answer all your cravings for extra tender and juicy steak and is low calorie enough that you can order any of the smother options - besides the green chile sauce - without going over 500 calories. If you'd rather add on a vegetable, order your steak with a side of green beans or sauteed mushrooms at 100 and 120 calories, respectively.

    8. Grilled Salmon - 5 oz.

A piece of salmon on a white plate with a white bowl of broccoli and carrots.

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 410 Calories
    • 33g Fat
    • 2g Carbs
    • <1g Sugar
    • <1g Fiber
    • 27g Protein

From the Dockside Favorites menu, the 5 oz. grilled Norweigan salmon is the lowest calorie seafood option at Texas Roadhouse. This hearty salmon fillet is grilled until flaky and tender, then served with lemon pepper butter, which has about 170 calories (included in the total). Add a side of green beans for a dose of added fiber and nutrients at 100 calories, and skip half the container of lemon pepper butter to bring the total down by 85 calories.

    9. New York Strip - 8 oz. Thick Cut

A piece of New York strip steak on a white plate with a bowl of corn on it too.

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 420 Calories
    • 22g Fat
    • <1g Carbs
    • 2g Sugar
    • <1g Fiber
    • 57g Protein

This hefty 8-ounce short loin steak is a bit more tender than the sirloin cut and has the same intense beefy flavor. At just 420 calories for the whole thing, there's a little wiggle room here to add on a smother option like the sauteed mushrooms, sauteed onions, or grilled shrimp, all while keeping it less than 500 calories.

    10. Smothered Chicken with Cream Gravy

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 420 Calories
    • 19g Fat
    • 13g Carbs
    • 7g Sugar
    • 3g Fiber
    • 50g Protein

Nothing says comfort food like this grilled marinated chicken covered in sauteed onions, mushrooms, and creamy homemade gravy. The white gravy is the classic, but you can also order it with the brown smother gravy option for 20 calories less. And if you want to add a side of healthy veggies, the house salad with no cheddar cheese or hardboiled eggs will add just 70 calories.

    11. Smothered Chicken with Jack Cheese

Melted cheese on top of a grilled chicken breast on a white plate with a bowl of green beans.

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 430 Calories
    • 20g Fat
    • 8g Carbs
    • 4g Sugar
    • 3g Fiber
    • 55g Protein

Another great smother option is the Monterey Jack cheese. Just like the gravy-smothered chicken, this entree comes with grilled marinated chicken breast topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions, but this time, it comes blanketed in a layer of melty cheese.

    12. Texas Red Chili (with beans) A bowl of Texas Roadhouse Texas Red chili

    Nutritional Info:

    • 430 Calories
    • 23g Fat
    • 25g Carbs
    • 5g Sugar
    • 6g Fiber
    • 31g Protein

This made-from-scratch dish is listed as a starter, but a bowl of this Texas-style chili can make for a perfect light meal. It's made with slow-cooked beef, a bold blend of spices, and cheddar cheese and onions. You can even order your chili without beans, though that will bring you about 500 calories.

    13. Caesar Salad

A caesar salad with croutons in a white bowl.

    Nutritional Info with dressing:

    • 440 Calories
    • 43g Fat
    • 9g Carbs
    • 2g Sugar
    • 2g Fiber
    • 6g Protein

Over a third of the calories in Texas Roadhouse's Caesar salad actually comes from the Caesar dressing, so if you want to save some calories, ask for no dressing. You could even get some bacon bits and blue cheese crumbles instead!

    14. Grilled Pork Chops - Single Chop

Two grilled pork chops with a bowl of broccoli on a white plate.

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 440 Calories
    • 26g Fat
    • 10g Carbs
    • 2g Sugar
    • 2g Fiber
    • 42g Protein

If you're craving an old-fashioned country dinner, you can't go wrong with this meaty, boneless grilled porkchop served with peppercorn sauce. The peppercorn sauce has 150 calories, and you can always opt for a half serving of sauce, freeing up space on your plate for a side of healthy green beans at 100 calories.

    15. USDA Choice Sirloin - 11 oz.

    Nutritional Info without sides:

    • 460 Calories
    • 11g Fat
    • 6g Carbs
    • 3g Sugar
    • 2g Fiber
    • 84g Protein

This hefty 11 oz. steak is by far the highest protein option on this low calorie list at an impressive 84 grams of protein per serving. It's best enjoyed without any sides to keep it as low calorie as possible. But, if you don't mind going a touch over the 500-calorie limit, you could get away with adding some charred jalapenos on the side for 50 calories more.

    16. Chicken Critters

A bunch of fried chicken on a plate with green beans and honey mustard.

Nutritional Info without sides and sauce:

    • 480 Calories
    • 21g Fat
    • 26g Carbs
    • 2g Sugar
    • 3g Fiber
    • 45g Protein

If you're craving the crunchy buttermilk breaded chicken tenders from Texas Roadhouse, you can order a full plate without any sides or sauce and still maintain your calorie goals. Another hack is to order the Texas Size combo of chicken critters and 6 oz. sirloin steak without sides. It comes with about 4 chicken critters for a total of 520 calories, but you can keep the whole meal under 500 calories by just skipping the last chicken critter.
