My Take On Steak Tacos
I love street tacos, and when I'm craving those authentic flavors, this recipe is my go-to. It uses an inexpensive cut of meat called flank steak to make it a budget-friendly meal. The meat is seasoned with incredible spices to create steak that tastes like something you'd get from a high-end restaurant!
Complete these tacos de bistec with some warm tortillas, lettuce, sour cream, fresh cilantro, and shredded cheese. You have yourself a winning dinner everyone will love!
Why You'll Love This Recipe
Instant family favorite. My family loves the taste of authentic Mexican food, and we instantly fell in love with this recipe. It's similar to our favorite carne asada tacos from our local Mexican restaurant, but they taste even better made at home!
Easy to customize: I've listed a few of my favorite toppings here in this recipe, but the possibilities are endless. You can customize these tacos to meet your family's taste! Top with tomatoes, cheddar cheese, or your favorite salsa. The choice is yours!
Easy to make ahead. You can grill the steak the day before for a super quick dinner! It makes this recipe ideal when you know you'll have a busy week ahead.
Ingredients
- Flank steak- you can also use skirt steak.
- Chili powder
- Onion powder
- Paprika
- Salt and pepper
- Olive oil
- For serving- lemon, cilantro, lettuce, lime, red onion, and flour tortillas or corn tortillas.
How To Make Tacos De Bistec
1. Season the steak. Mix the chili powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Season the Flank steak with the spice mixture on both sides to completely cover.
2. Grill the steak. Heat a grill or grill pan to medium high heat and add the olive oil to it. Add the steak and cook for about 2-3 minutes until browned on both sides. Lower the heat, cover, and let it cook for 15 more minutes until it reaches your desired doneness. Alternatively, you can transfer to the oven until your desired doneness.
3. Slice and serve. Slice the steak into thin stripes and serve in the tortillas with a squeeze of lemon and lime, chopped cilantro, lettuce, and red onion.
My Pro Tips To Make The Best Recipe
- Let your steaks rest for about 5 minutes after they're done grilling. This will ensure the juices stay inside and give you that juicy slice you're looking for!
- I typically grill my steaks to medium, but you can cook them however you want. Just make sure you check on the meat frequently throughout cooking to see how it's coming along.
- If you don't have a grill, you can sear these steak tacos in a cast iron skillet to your desired doneness. You'll still end up with an incredible flavor!
How To Store and Reheat Leftovers
In the fridge: You can store the cooked steak in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Store each of the taco components separately.
In the freezer: To keep for longer, transfer the steak to a freezer-safe bag and freeze for up to 6 months.
Reheating: I like to eat the steak cold, but if you want to reheat, the best way to reheat is to first let the meat come down to room temperature. Then add it to a skillet over medium heat and warm for 2 minutes on each side until it reaches your desired temperature.
