THE BEST GLUTEN FREE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
If you're looking for the best gluten free chocolate chip cookies in the world, look no further. This recipe takes the most popular dessert you can make and turns it into a gluten free dream come true.
Now, I know I'm biased, but these really just might be the most delicious cookies - gluten free or not - you'll ever make!
These gf chocolate chip cookies create perfectly chewy chocolate chip cookies with slightly crisp edges and a soft center. Even if you don't eat gluten free, you'll be obsessed with these cookies.
Now, what I think puts these cookies above all the other gluten free cookie recipes out there is that they're filled with semi-sweet and white chocolate chips. The combination of the two will have you wondering why all chocolate chip cookies aren't made this way!
Another thing to love about this recipe is how simple it is to make. Just a little mixing is all you have to do, then let the cookie dough chill, and bake it to perfection. How easy does that sound?!
INGREDIENTS
So, the ingredients you'll need for these gluten free chocolate chip cookies are pretty much all the same as the ones a classic chocolate chip cookie recipe would use. The only real difference is the flour.
So, even if you're new to gluten free baking, you should have almost all of these ingredients on hand.
Here is everything you'll need:
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 stick + ⅛ tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg + 1 egg yolk
- Just under 1 ¾ cup gluten free all-purpose flour
- Vanilla extract
- Just under ¾ cup milk chocolate chips + 3.5 tablespoon white chocolate
- ½ tsp. baking soda
- ¼ tsp. baking powder
- ½ tsp. sea salt
Pretty simple stuff, right?
And the process of making these cookies gluten free is just as simple, so let's get to it.
HOW TO MAKE GLUTEN FREE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
If you've ever made chocolate chip cookies before, this recipe will be a breeze.
But even if this is your first time, you'll find the recipe to be super easy, and the cookies will turn out perfect every time.
Anyway, with that said, let's make some easy gluten free chocolate chip cookies!
STEP 1: MAKING THE COOKIE DOUGH
The first thing you'll do is melt the butter and add the melted butter to a medium bowl along with the granulated sugar and brown sugar.
Then, either with a hand mixer - or a stand mixer - mix these ingredients together until they're foamy.
Next, add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla to the bowl with the butter mixture in it and mix for a few seconds.
After that, add the gluten free flour (or gluten free flour blend), baking soda, baking powder, and salt, and mix everything well until you have a combined dough and there are no more gluten free flour streaks.
Lastly, add in the semi-sweet and white chocolate chips and mix until they are fully incorporated into the dough.
STEP 2: BAKING THE COOKIES
Now, for the best results, refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. I do not suggest baking the cookies immediately - giving the dough time to chill gives the cookies their dreamy texture.
About halfway through chilling, preheat the oven to 330 degrees Fahrenheit (165°C).
Then, when the times up, line two prepared baking sheets with parchment paper and form cookie dough balls out of the dough with your hands or a cookie scoop.
Finally, bake the cookies for about 8-9 minutes, then eat warm or let them cool completely and enjoy!
HOW TO STORE BAKED CHOCOLATE CHIPS COOKIES
This recipe for gluten free cookies will make about 14 cookies, depending on how big you make them.
So, unless your family is in the kitchen after these come out of the oven, you should have a couple of cookies leftover. If you do, you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for about 1 week.
And if you want to keep them for longer, you can store the cookies in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag and freeze for about 3 months. Then when you're craving a good chocolate chip cookie, let it thaw or eat chilled and enjoy.
REFRIGERATING & FREEZING COOKIE DOUGH
The best part about this recipe is you can make the gluten free cookie dough ahead of time, so you can just pop it in the oven for freshly baked cookies whenever the cravings hit!
After mixing the cookie dough, you can cover the mixing bowl tightly with plastic wrap and keep it in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Then when you want some warm fresh cookies, bake them the same way as described above!
If you don't think you'll bake the dough within a few days after making it, transfer it to an airtight container or freezer-safe bag, and you can store it in the freezer for 2 months. Then, when you want to bake the cookies, let the dough thaw in the fridge, and bake according to this recipe!
