The Best Low Calorie High Protein Bars

Eating protein bars, whether as a snack or an occasional meal replacement, is an easy and tasty way to meet your daily protein goals. But when it comes to maintaining your calorie limits at the same time, you'll definitely want to take a closer look at the protein bars you choose.

With that in mind, I put together this list of what I think are some of the best protein bars you can buy for a low calorie diet, all at just 160 calories or less. There's seriously something on this list for everyone, so let's dive right into the good stuff!

    1. Built Bar

    A salted caramel built bar.

Nutritional Info for 1 bar (48g):

    • 130 Calories
    • 2.5g Fat
    • 20g Carbs
    • 4g Sugar
    • 5g Fiber
    • 17g Protein

Simultaneously the lowest in calories and the highest in protein on the list, these Built bars have it all. These whey protein bars are coated in a layer of chocolate for a candy bar-like finish and come in a huge variety of flavors and different textures.

The classic Built bar flavors have a dense, chewy texture that's like nougat. Though if that doesn't sound like your thing, you can also try out their puff bars, which are just as low calorie and high protein but with a light marshmallow consistency from added collagen.

    2. Epic Bars

    Two Epic beef bars.

Nutritional Info for 1 bar (37g):

    • 130 Calories
    • 9g Fat
    • 1g Carbs
    • 0g Sugar
    • <1g Fiber
    • 12g Protein

A cross between jerky and protein bars, these Epic bars are a one-of-a-kind snack that brings all-natural protein with simple, whole food ingredients.

They come in a diverse range of options made from grass-fed and natural animal protein, like chicken sriracha, venison sea salt & pepper, and beef apple bacon, to name a few. Plus, they're naturally gluten-free, keto-friendly, and paleo-approved, so there's a lot to love about these meaty snack bars. You can try a sampler pack here.

    3. Magic Spoon Treats

A box of Magic Spoon treats with a wrapped bar and unwrapped bar in front of it.

Nutritional Info for 1 bar (40g):

    • 130 Calories
    • 6g Fat
    • 17g Carbs
    • 1g Sugar
    • 8g Fiber
    • 11g Protein

You might recognize Magic Spoon for their widely popular cereals, which I've also mentioned in my high protein cereal list. Well, their snack bars are just as good, with plenty of protein and an impressively low-calorie count.

Magic Spoon treats are reminiscent of the childhood favorite rice krispie treats with two flavor options: chocolatey peanut butter and marshmallow. They're pillowy, crunchy, and sweet but with no added sugar and made with protein-packed ingredients for a satisfying midday or post-workout treat.

    4. Fulfil Vitamin & Protein Bar

A Fulfil vitamin protein bar salted caramel flavor.

Nutritional Info for 1 bar (40g):

    • 150 Calories
    • 5g Fat
    • 15g Carbs
    • 1g Sugar
    • 0g Fiber
    • 15g Protein

This low calorie protein bar also comes with added essential vitamins for more nutritional value per bite. Each of these chocolate-dipped bars is filled with a sweet and chewy blend of collagen, whey protein isolate, and soy protein isolate. All that goodness, plus 8 vitamins, including a range of B vitamins, vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E, with just the right amounts to add to your day without going overboard.

You can get them in chocolate salted caramel, chocolate peanut caramel, chocolate hazelnut, and chocolate peanut butter flavors. Learn more about the bars and try a flavor here.

    5. Promix Protein Puff Bar

    A Promix protein puff bar.

Nutritional Info for 1 bar (40g):

    • 150 Calories
    • 4g Fat
    • 16g Carbs
    • 5g Sugar
    • 4g Fiber
    • 15g Protein

If you grew up snacking on pillowy and crispy puffed rice bars, these Promix bars will be your new favorite protein-rich treat. They're made with high-quality, clean ingredients, powered with grass-fed whey protein for one of the highest protein counts on the list, plus added coconut oil for a boost of healthy MCTs.

You can get them in a huge variety of dessert flavors like birthday cake, strawberries & cream, and Snickerdoodle, and they're all perfectly sweetened while being low in sugar and free from artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols. Try my favorite flavor, Cinnamon French Toast, here.

    6. Simply Protein Bar

A box of Simply protein bars with a protein bar in front of it.

Nutritional Info for 1 bar (40g):

    • 150 Calories
    • 5g Fat
    • 17g Carbs
    • 2g Sugar
    • 3g Glycerin
    • 7g Fiber
    • 12g Protein

True to their name, Simply Protein snack bars get their protein content from simple plant-powered ingredients like soy protein isolate, brown rice crisps, and peanut butter. If you're avoiding peanuts, they have flavors powered with almond butter and cashew butter, too.

In addition to their low calorie counts and high protein content, these vegan protein bars are also a good source of fiber, with gut-healthy chicory root, oats, and healthy nuts and seeds.

    7. Orgain Protein Snack Bar

An orgain peanut butter chocolate chunk protein bar.

Nutritional Info for 1 bar (40g):

    • 150 Calories
    • 5g Fat
    • 19g Carbs
    • 6g Sugar
    • 3g Erythritol
    • 1g Fiber
    • 10g Protein

If you're looking for something with more plant-based protein, these organic vegan protein bars will be right up your alley. They're made with all organic ingredients and a soy-free protein blend that uses brown rice protein, pea protein, and chia seeds. As for snackability, these protein bars have a wonderfully soft and doughy texture that shines in flavors like chocolate chip cookie dough, chocolate coconut, and chocolate brownie.

For a liquid version of this high protein treat, Orgain also makes an excellent low calorie protein shake that I mentioned in my healthy on the go snack list, so you might want to check that out as well.

    8. Think! Snack Bar

Think chocolate chip cookie dough snack bar.

Nutritional Info for 1 bar (40g):

    • 150 Calories
    • 4.5g Fat
    • 20g Carbs
    • 5g Sugar
    • 5g Fiber
    • 10g Protein

With a soft and sweet interior made from soy and whey protein, coated in a chocolate layer, these high protein and fiber bars are an energizing midday treat that tastes more like dessert. Of course, it helps that you can get them in indulgent candy bar flavors like salted caramel, chocolate chip, cupcake batter, and smores.

By the way, if you're picking these up at the store, you'll want to make sure to reach for the Think snack bars or crisp bars rather than their delight bars and high protein bars, which are just as good but are higher in calories. Try out my go-to flavor, chocolate chip, here.

    9. Nick's Swedish Style Snack Bar

Nicks peanut chocolate swedish style snack bar.

Nutritional Info for 1 bar (50g):

    • 160 Calories
    • 6g Fat
    • 23g Carbs
    • 2g Sugar
    • 9g Fiber
    • 14g Protein

It's almost hard to believe these snack bars are low calorie, keto-friendly, and high protein all while tasting so sweet and chocolatey. These Nick's bars are filled with a chewy filling made with a blend of diverse protein sources, including milk protein, collagen, whey, and egg whites. Topped with an ooey-gooey caramel filling and dipped in a chocolate coating, they perfectly emulate your childhood candy bars while being better for you.

Nick's also makes what I think is the best low calorie ice cream, which I've featured in my low calorie ice cream list if you'd like to check it out!

    10. Lenny & Larry's Complete Cookie-fied Bar

A Lenny & Larry's Complete Cookie-fied Bar cookies and cream flavor.

Nutritional Info for 1 bar (45g):

    • 160 Calories
    • 5g Fat
    • 22g Carbs
    • 6g Sugar
    • 5g Fiber
    • 12g Protein

A mix of energy bars and cookie bars in one, these cookie-fied bars are made with brown rice protein and pea protein for a soft, chewy base, combined with bits of real gluten-free sugar cookies for a satisfying crunch.

At just 160 calories and with 12 grams of protein per bar, they're a fantastic midday or after workout pick-me-up in a variety of options like chocolate almond sea salt, cookies and creme, peanut butter chocolate chip, and strawberry.
