The Best Low Calorie Cheese Options
Whether you're adding it to a salad, eating it with one of these healthy crackers, sandwiching it between some low calorie bread and making grilled cheese with it, or just snacking on it, I think we can all agree that cheese is one of the most satisfying things you can eat. I mean, it just makes everything so much better!
And along with being delicious, cheese can also be a healthy addition to your diet - as long as you're eating it in moderation, of course. That's because cheese is a great source of calcium and protein, and it's also rich in vitamins A, D, and K, plus several essential minerals.
With that said though, some cheeses are higher in calories than others, and knowing which cheeses are the lowest in calories can make all the difference in staying on track with your weight loss goals. And that's especially true if cheese makes up a big part of your diet. So, that's exactly why I put together this list of the lowest calorie cheeses you can eat!
Now, before were get into things, I just want to quickly mention that almost every single one of the cheeses on this list are fat free cheeses. And while fat free cheese does have the lowest amount of calories, it does typically have the least amount of flavor.
So, with that said, I personally like to go with the "low fat" versions of the cheeses you'll find on this list. Or, at the very least, I'll combine the fat free versions that I've listed below with the low fat versions and make my own hybrid variation with them. I just find that doing that keeps the flavor up and the calories down.
Anyway, let's not waste another second and jump right into the list!

Fat free feta cheese is also the lowest calorie cheese you can eat per ounce - ringing it at just 15 calories per ounce.
Also, for what it's worth, my favorite thing to use feta cheese on is this greek chicken pasta bowl.

Ricotta also happens to be one of the lowest calories cheeses per ounce you can eat - that is, of course, if you go with the fat free kind - since it only has 23 calories per serving.
It's also protein packed, and even the full fat kind is lower in calories.
This Italian soft cheese is a staple in everything from pasta dishes - like lasagna - to desserts - like ricotta cake - and it also goes great in a ton of dips too, so it's well worth stocking in your fridge.
3. Fat Free Cream Cheese
Nutritional info for 1oz. of Fat Free Cream Cheese:
- 30 Calories
- 0g Fat
- 4g Carbs
- 4g Protein
Cream cheese is a classic spreadable cheese option for bagels and toast, but it's also terrific for adding to recipes too, like making my cream cheese pancakes.
Fat free cream cheese also comes in as one of the lowest calorie cheeses you can eat per ounce. Each ounce of it has just 30 calories!
Pro-tip: Mix your fat free cream cheese with some low fat cream cheese to give it more flavor - and actually make it taste good. Yes, the fat free stuff is low in calories, but it's also missing a lot of the flavor that makes cream cheese so great. Mixing the two kinds together is the pro-move in my opinion, and you get the most bang for your calorie buck.
