The Best Instant Pot Carne Asada
So I’ve been on an Instant Pot kick lately – and with really good reason. They’re incredibly convenient, require minimal cleanup, and help produce some of the most delicious & quick recipes!
Seriously, my Instant Pot recipes are some of the easiest yet most satisfying low carb keto friendly recipes you can make for dinner or meal prep.
And, honestly, I’m pretty proud of this Instant Pot Carne Asada – the meat is incredibly tender, juicy, and just packed full of bold Mexican inspired flavors.
Plus, thanks to the Instant Pot, this Cane Asada takes only 30 minutes to make and produces eight hearty servings!
Ingredients
These are the ingredients we need to create this wonderfully savory and juicy keto carne asada in the Instant Pot:
- Flank steak
- Liquid aminos
- Beef broth
- Fresh lime juice
- Garlic powder, ground cumin, chili flakes
- Red onion
- Salt & black pepper
- Olive oil

How to Make Instant Pot Carne Asada
- Season your beef with salt and pepper. Pro tip: If you want the beef's exterior to be perfectly brown during the next step, pat it dry with a paper towel before seasoning and cooking. Otherwise, the beef will just “steam” in that moisture instead of crisping up, and you get that unappetizing grey color.
- Set your Instant Pot to sauté mode and brown the meat in olive oil for 5 minutes. You can do both sides, but one side is enough. Make sure the meat’s browned side is facing up, then season it with the garlic powder, cumin, and chili flakes – you can combine them in a small bowl ahead of time.
- Pour in the liquid aminos and beef broth and place sliced red onions over the meat. Cook on high pressure for 20 minutes and naturally release for 10 more minutes.
- Once that’s done, transfer the carne asada onto a plate and cut it into strips – which shouldn’t be that hard since the meat would be practically falling apart by now.
Keto Carne Asada on the Stovetop or Crockpot
Don’t worry, Crockpot owners and stovetop cooks, I haven’t forgotten about you guys! This recipe is just as easy to make on the stove or in a slow cooker.
For a Crockpot or slow cooker, you can cook this for about 7 hours on low or 3.5 hours on high.
For the stovetop, you can cook this in a covered pot for about 1 hour.
Oh, and if you’re using a stovetop pressure cooker, you can still follow the cooking times from the original instructions!
What To Serve With Carne Asada
Serve the carne asada on my DIY keto tortillas, top it with cilantro, and squeeze a tiny bit of lime juice on top. You can also add sour cream or even guacamole to make some seriously delicious carne asada tacos.
Honestly, these low carb beef tacos are almost as good as any you can find in a restaurant! The combination of colors, flavors, and textures in these keto tacos is wonderful, and it tastes better than Chipotle carne asada!
Now, you can also use this Carne Asada to make some delicious loaded keto nachos. Just follow these instructions to make my tortilla chips (or you can use these ones from Quest), add a layer of this Instant Pot Carne Asada on top, and pour on some of this awesome homemade keto cheese sauce.
Boom, you're in some serious delicious loaded nacho business with deconstructed carne asada tacos!
For more heat, you can throw on your favorite hot sauce – the ones we use a lot here are Frank’s Red Hot and Duff’s hot sauce – or maybe even some sliced jalapenos!
By the way, if you want some more options for Mexican – or Mexican-esque – keto food, I have a post about all the keto options at Taco Bell, so if you haven’t checked that out, you definitely should!
How To Store Carne Asada
This Instant Pot recipe will make about 4 servings of carne asada. And if everyone doesn't finish all of it in one sitting, it's delicious leftover, so it makes a great meal prep recipe too.
You can store it in an airtight container, or you can wrap it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and store it in a sealable bag. Either way, the steak will last in the fridge for about 3-4 days.
