    The Best Keto Hot Chocolate

When I think of winter and cold weather, there's nothing I'd rather have than a cup of hot chocolate. So, whether it's in the morning or at night with a keto dessert, this keto hot chocolate recipe is a must-have.

And I know I'm slightly biased, but believe me when I tell you this healthy hot chocolate is so much better than the one that comes in a packet. I mean, not only is it sugar free & low carb, but it has all the richness and sweetness that a "regular" hot chocolate mix has.

Plus, I think the deep chocolate flavor and creaminess of this keto hot chocolate are better than any premade mix you can buy.

By the way, this recipe is effortless to make - all you have to do is add the ingredients to a pot and stir! Plus, the whole thing takes just 5 minutes to whip up! And the result is a low carb hot chocolate that is sure to become your favorite winter drink.

    Ingredients You'll Need

Ok so, making this sugar free hot chocolate mix at home only requires a few ingredients. And if you've made any of my keto recipes recently, you probably have everything you need. With that said, here's everything you'll need:

    • Unsweetened almond milk- you can use any sugar free milk that you want.
    • Unsweetened cocoa powder- I love the one from Hershey's.
    • Confectioners erythritol- I like to use Confectioners Swerve. Another great option is Lakanto's Powdered Monk Fruit Sweetener.
    • Salt- just a pinch.
    • Optional- Around a ¼ Cup Sugar Free Dark Chocolate Or Sugar Free Chocolate Chips

Oh, and if you have all of these ingredients, then you have everything you need to make my Keto Brownie Cookie Bars or my Keto Frosty recipe next!

A pot filled with milk with a whisk in it, a small bowl of salt, a small bowl of confectioner erythritol, a small bowl of dark chocolate pieces, and a small bowl of cocoa powder on a gray counter.

How To Make Keto Hot Chocolate

A pot filled with sugar free hot chocolate ingredients with a whiskey in it. Behind the pot is a small bowl of salt and a small white bowl of dark chocolate pieces.

    STEP 1: MIXING THE INGREDIENTS

First, take out a small pot, put it on your stovetop over medium heat, and add the almond milk, confectioners erythritol, and cocoa powder to the pot. Then whisk these ingredients together and let them simmer for 3-4 minutes, whisking every minute or so.

After that, add the dark chocolate/chocolate chips - if you're using them - and a pinch of salt and continue heating until the chocolate melts completely. And once it does, whisk the mixture until a smooth and creamy hot chocolate forms.

    STEP 2: SERVING

Now that your keto hot chocolate is ready to go, it's time to for the best part - drinking it!  So pour the hot cocoa into either one large mug or two smaller mugs if you're sharing this tasty drink with anyone.  Then top it off with some whipped cream and enjoy!

How To Make Keto Hot Chocolate Mix

If you want to prepare this as a mix to drink at a later time, all you have to do is whisk the cocoa powder, sweetener, and salt together in a bowl. Then store it in an airtight container or glass jar in your cupboard. When you want a cup of cocoa, add the mix to a pot with the milk of your choice and warm as directed above.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is cocoa powder ok on keto?

Cocoa powder is totally keto friendly! It is high in fiber and low in net carbs, making it a great rich chocolate addition to keto recipes like this hot chocolate.

What hot drink can I have on keto?

You can really have any hot drinks you want on keto as long as they are sugar free and low in net carbs! One of my favorite hot drinks is this Keto Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Does Starbucks have keto hot chocolate?

Unfortunately, Starbucks uses a hot chocolate mix that is high in sugar, and they do not have a keto option. But they do have a ton of other keto hot and iced drinks that you can order. Check out my list of all of the best Keto Starbucks Drinks and how to order them!

    My Final Thoughts

Cold weather won't be as bad this year, thanks to this healthy hot chocolate! Anytime you want a cozy drink that is low carb, sugar free, and filled with chocolaty goodness, I hope you whip this stuff up.

If you have kids, they're sure to love it just as much - if not more - than the packaged kind and it's way better for them. Plus, this recipe is super easy to double or triple, so you can totally make enough for the entire family!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this keto hot chocolate recipe as much as I do.  If you make it, leave a comment below and let me know how it turned out!
